Promoting the Message of Consent

During this time more than ever, our generation needs to create awareness on the necessary idea of consent. Consent is when you or another person gives permission to proceed in anything sexual, or anything that involves them touching you or you touching them. I think this is something that needs to brought more attention to, especially in college campus’. A campaign that caught my interest while looking into ways to bring awareness is http://nomore.org, a website that provides information for sexual assault victims, along with having a partnership with Uber that provides the opportunity for people to feel safe in Ubers when they don’t while being alone in public. They host “No More” week, where creating awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault is promoted as a priority. The campaign also has a campaign connected with “No More” called “No Mas”, which involves the Latin population to address this issue within their community. For those that want to educate themselves more on the campaign, you can donate, get a toolkit that provides handouts, branding, posters, so that you could set up this campaign at your own community. Campaigns like these that give information to those that need to hear about stories more often are what will end the big issue of not giving consent. They also have hotlines that run 24/7 giving victims to talk to others in a time where they feel most vulnerable. One in four woman have claimed that they have been forced or sexually assaulted. This high statistic is what should be the cause of motivation and should be used to prevent rape across all countries and all college campus’. Each person that give attention to this matter is one step closer to fully eliminating the idea of sexual abuse and domestic violence from repeatedly happening.
